Re: Free will

Yet another good reason for abolishing yellow and red cards in soccer (aka football outside of America). If there is no choice, then there is no justifiable penalty for the consequences of any of our actions.

Re: Star Spangled Banner lyrics & it's bad side

For what it is worth, and as part of the philosophy of full disclosure, the following was once an official verse of the English national anthem:

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
God save the King

Re: The inherent issues with "God is Love"...

I agree that a robot has no inalienable right to know who made it, but there does arise an interesting morality question over any act it may commit that is considered to be a wrongful act by society at large. A driver-less car that causes the death of a pedestrian, for example. To what degree does t...

Re: A guest from abroad

Hiya!

You join us during one of our lulls in activities - but that may be coming to its end.

I look forward to discussing with you the nuances of your belief system: which we may find many of its aspects are shared between us.

Re: Free will

The MOOC course offered by MIT on the subject of philosophy had a section devoted to free will and conclusively showed that free will is impossible if determinism is true, and, as a follow-on that morality is impossible if there is no free will. They also demonstrated that if determinism is true, th...

Re: Free will

The online MIT MOOC course on philosophy argues that if determinism is true, free will is false but it is still possible to provide logical cases where people are still accountable for their actions. But only if determinism is true is free will necessarily false. For those who are agnostic over free...

Re: Worst US President ever.

Whenever a country suffers a major breakdown in its political system, there arises a possibility of armed conflict between its peoples. There is no blame game that works for the USA right now - just two huge disconnected factions who both say words to the effect of "Our opponents are too stupid...

Re: Worst US President ever.

The right wing media is urging its followers to properly protect themselves against the ever increasing violence inflicted on right wing supporters by a liberal left mob who are out to remove Trump by lethal force. So while I agree there is about a 10% chance of an exchange of Nukes between N. Korea...

Re: The case for a non-interventionist God

The case that non-intervention theism is nonsense has not much stuffing in it. Pointing out that religion is, in the main, stark raving mad is a case against intervention theism. The case that intervention theism is nonsense has far better legs. In my opinion.
