Re: Consciousness

Yet we have not tackled the problem of the more complex community being 'more' conscious?

So what does this consciousness resulting from perhaps a couple more orders connectivity/complexity display itself?

Re: Philosophical Fallacies

Theology, psychology, art, emotions, love, etc., are non-science areas. They are located in different building of colleges. And yet all these can viewed through a scientific lens should we choose to do so. Particularly psychology ... like economics it is a dismal science but a relatively new one an...

Re: Consciousness

The problem with (or result) of the complexity argument is a husband and wife are more complicated than an individual. The family is more complicated than the couple and a community is more complicated than the family. Which is all fine, but it gets us no closer to understanding consciousness result...

Philosophical Fallacies

I try to relate the concept of an unfolding universe with the mulitude of mental attributes we posses and, it is said, not one of them is what it appears to be. Perhaps we have some non-sequitur logic going on here, Maybe: The universe appears to us to be in a state consistent with it being in a pr...

Why?

What gilv and Bill said and no doubt a whole bunch more.

And despite the complexity and anthropomorhization we are fallible.

Re: The evil that men do ...

There is seldom a single cause but a complex of them. Instance, the West's unjustified invasions of the Middle East for over a century now compounded with passages in the Koran such as Sura 47.V4 can be taken as justification for barbaric acts. I agree with the single cause comment ... And the Sura...

Re: Consciousness

The reason for my reply here is to state a difference of opinion that I have with the monk in regards to being reincarnated every moment. My opinion is that our consciousness grows from our life force and/or our physicalness, and this consciousness grows into a self that exists consciously for our ...

Re: Joke Thread - a spot for the one off joke

In a long and eventually heated discussion between the pope and an outspoken atheist, the frustrated pontiff tells the atheist: "You are like a man who is totally blindfolded, in a dark room, looking for a black cat that isn't there!" The atheist replied: "With all respect, Your Holi...

Re: The evil that men do ...

In three weeks or so I will be landing at Manchester airport ... not that I have any particular fears or so, but the events make it a little more poignant. Now what is the best way to eliminate these premature and unnecessary deaths and outrage? Education is one and a watering down of some horrible ...

Re: Consciousness

The things that I doubt is stuff like electrons. One of my favourite quotes I think I have quoted it before and it was deemed aggressive but I think is apt When Seth Lloyd replied to the question what you can't prove exists but you believe does, he answered: I cannot prove that electrons exist, but...
