Re: homosexuality - sinful?

I know Jesus as a character in a story, well several stories actually in the bible. I don't claim to have any authority where the bible is concerned. But as a reader of stories I have a sense of what actions and words are consistent with a character. On that basis I don't think the Jesus of the bibl...

Re: homosexuality - sinful?

" Homosexuals should be welcomed into the churches. They can sit on my pew if they would like, because they need to hear the Good News that Jesus can set them free from their sin and forgive them. " I guess the same would hold true for mass murderers and every other sort of abomination. Pu...

Re: Rawr I'm a dinosaur!

You sound delightful. I think my beliefs and attitudes are much like your own. I'm much more interested in why people believe what they do than in changing that. I too am much more interested in the question of gods in the Jungian, inner world sense. When it comes to the natural world, I expect natu...

Re: homosexuality - sinful?

"I believe that the arguments Knox gives for the Sodom story and also for Leviticus are perfect reasons for why a gay man can still be a Christian. " It has always struck me as somewhat bizarre that homosexuality is singled out as a 'sin' which might prevent one from being or being accepte...

Re: Murphy's lesser known laws

Nice misdirection in each of these. I like. Here is one in the same vein I read somewhere.

Q: You wouldn't hit a woman with a baby would you?

A: No, I'd use a brick.

[Disclaimer: No actual women or babies were injured in the making of this joke.]

Re: "God: The Failed Hypothesis" by Victor J. Stenger

From 2007. I'm pretty much a de facto aetheist. While admitting there isn't proof on either side for god, zeus, thor or even the Stay-Puff marshmallow man (from Ghost Busters) .. I just don't find magical explanations for natural world phenomena at all tempting.

Re: Six Months old

I didn't realize the forum was so young. I wonder if there is a way to choose tags when posting. I know when I use these with the photos I post on flickr it makes them more readily available to be found by google et al.

Re: Free will

What insight does psychology provide into the question of free will vs determinism? I think this is a discussion about our subjective experience. As such any assertion about the intra-personal must be to some extent confessional. No matter how honest we may wish to be it all begins with how good we ...
