Re: Monism, Dualism and Pluralism

I've read most of the preceding with some fascination and a lot of bewilderment. Instance, what does it mean to suggest 'matter is aware of' ? Is consciousness being suggested, well suggested as we experience it or something significantly different? Well, I am suggesting consciousness is not as it ...

Re: Monism, Dualism and Pluralism

CARTOON CRITIC TIME FROM MY DUALISTIC POINT OF VIEW Of course the mind and body are somehow separate. The mind (the thinking for our self) is going to die. The body (the atoms, water, air, carbon, etc) is going to live on forever. That seems quite separate to me. I think the cartoon is cute, but in...

Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson has been doing the rounds recently ... in that he has bee butting heads with the likes of Sam Harris

Having said that I think he has way more in common with the New Atheists even tough he gives them a hard time.

Here he is on a non related issue

Re: The case for a non-interventionist God

This is interesting Bill Let me parse the argument and please excuse me, I have a few glasses of Canadian Malbec inside me. For science to work, there has to be predictability in the universe. Re: Free will

Here is a RadioLab excerpt .... it is about free will. https://www.wnyc.org/radio/#/ondemand/777882 The first 27 minutes simply sets up the twenty minute discussion at the end with Robert Sapolsky. The first 27 min: is about "Kevin" who has epilepsy and has part of his frontal cortex remov...

Compensation for Omar

I think this is fair to some degree we might quibble about the amount. Should the US put it its share?

Re: The Book Thread

Just back from my holidays in Europe or at least limited bits of it. Bought and read After the New Atheist Debate by Phil Ryan. Basically it is a Christian apologist's review of some of the most strident New Atheist criticisms and Christian criticisms of New Atheists. He tried hard to be balanced an...

Re: Consciousness

Bill wrote:Should you wish to make the case that super-minds do exist, please feel free to present your argument.

No not at all ... it is you who is arguing for complexity leading consciousness.

It is a bit like our amygdalae asking whether our brains exhibit consciousness?
