Re: Free will

Uniformitarian. I think it is way more of a stretch to start with what you don't know as the bases for a belief. the laws of the universe are the laws of the universe. We don't know them all, so why you are saying what you did is beyond me. If the "soul" does exist it will follow the laws...

Re: Free will

I think the answer to this massive riddle lies in the answer to the question of a "soul". Do we simply have just "minds" within our brains, or is there an ethereal "soul" of some sort which is capable of acting outside the realm of known physics? Many free will believe...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

Okey dokey then. Could be. The Matrix was fun to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Think I'll dial up a different app. LoL The Matrix is one of the more dystopian possibilities of this sort of future, where everyone is "enslaved to the machines" and such. Even though we can't logic...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

Nothing in your speculation easily disproved but I wonder why the insistance a simulation must necessarily be expressed in binary form? Well truthfully, all computing language can be broken down into binary form. I also suppose I wanted to end my post with a dramatic chilling effect. I can't ...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

At any rate, the size of the universe has no real bearing on the truth or falsehood of the simulation hypothesis. In the world of a deeply complex supercomputer, space and time don't really exist. The concepts are merely algorithms for the central processing unit to encode an x-y-z grid to map out t...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

you are not listening to me Unreal. I am saying "IF" the simulation is true. THEN, they are correct to a degree. If you consider the possibility of the truth in "simulation", then they have truth in them too. If the simulation is "false" then it doesn't matter. The sim...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

Just because "someone" created the known "universe" this doesn't mean that this creator is omnipotent, omniscient, let alone omnipresent. It only means that this creator had enough knowledge and/or power to create a working simulation that perfectly matches the "actual"...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

If everything is a simulation, then it doesn't matter, that becomes reality. If you create life in a computer it is no longer a simulation, it is life. It also mean the theist are totally correct. Sorry, I see no necessary connection between your first and second sentence. I agree with Ayn Marx her...

Re: Simulation Hypothesis

As to the simulation hypothesis if there are an infinite number of bytes in our particular 'program' how would be ever be able to indentify it as such? That's the whole point. How could we ever distinguish between a "real" particle and a "simulated" one? What level of observatio...
